When we first moved to Charleston back in April, we were so overwhelmed. We needed to find a house to live in, we were starting new jobs for the Air Force at Joint Base Charleston and we had just packed up our whole lives and driven over 40 hours and nearly 3,000 miles, so needless to say we were stressed and exhausted.
For the first few weeks, we didn’t have our house yet, so cooking was pretty much impossible. If you’ve ever been on a road trip that long, you know most exits in the middle of nowhere pretty much consist of McDonalds and Burger King (don’t judge). We were pretty tapped out on eating unhealthy food for awhile.
We were also eager to get things going again with Justin & Lauren Photography and make new connections with local vendors and businesses, so it worked out perfectly that our new meal prep company was also a new small business that was excited about partnering with us on this shoot.
Freshly Fueled Performance Meal Prep is owned by Cam and Cory Brown, featuring their little one, Rowan. They have literally saved our lives week after week with amazingly tasty and healthy food options. We’ve actually been sitting on sharing this gallery for a little bit while we waited for the 2019 Charleston Choice results to be released, because they were named Best Local Meal Prep Company. (woot! woot!)
This shoot also gave us a chance to expand our portfolio with an in-home session. We have seen so many photographers do amazing work with in-home shoots and had been dying to try ourselves. Even though we are normally natural light, outdoor photographers, it was so worth it to try something new.
We were lucky enough to have a BEAUTIFUL kitchen given to us on loan for the evening by one of Freshly Fueled’s loyal clients. The clean, white subway tiles and granite countertops really helped to isolate colors of the food and our couple. But what really made this shoot so easy and fun was how natural and carefree Cam, Cory and Rowan were in front of the camera. They were able to take small cues given by us and run with it just being themselves, which is really all a photographer ever wants.
If you’re a photographer, we hope this gallery inspires you to try something new or gives you some inspo for your next shoot. If you don’t have access to a pristine home, try browsing Airbnb for some local options and after the shoot, you can turn it into a mini staycation. Or, if you’re a couple wanting to get photos done, maybe an in-home photoshoot isn’t something you ever considered and would be an awesome choice for you. We’d love to hear from you!
